| Philosophy and Mission
Statement: It is our belief that all children can
learn and can be successful students. The key to learning
and academic success is finding the instruction and support
that meets the learner's individual needs. Our goal is to
help students develop into successful, independent learners. |
History and Evidence of
Success: The 2009-10 academic year is our 8th year
of tutoring services. Nearly every student has shown
improvement. The degree of improvement varies but in almost
every case the student's rate of learning is significantly
higher than it was prior to tutoring. A few examples of
improvement:
- With 22 hours of
tutoring over 3 months, a 3rd grader's Math skills
improved by 18 months.
- With 19 hours of
tutoring over 4 months, an 8th grader's Writing skills
improved by 18 months.
- With 22 hours of
tutoring over 3 months, a 6th grader's basic reading
skills improved by 16 months.
- After individual ACT
preparation, a high school junior's ACT score improved
from 16 to 23.

Comprehensive
Evaluations: For children with a history of
learning problems, a comprehensive evaluation is conducted
prior to the initiation of tutoring. The individual testing
is conducted by
Dr. Milton Dehn, a testing expert and school psychologist who is
licensed by the Wisconsin State Board of Psychology. The
goal of the assessment is to discover why the learner is
experiencing difficulties and to provide guidance for the
teachers who will tutor the child. The comprehensive
evaluation usually includes:
- Skills testing in
reading, math, and written language
- Learning aptitude
- Cognitive abilities
- Cognitive processes
related to learning
- Different types of
memory

| Hours of Operation: During
the school year, most students come in for tutoring between
the hours of 3:00 to 9:00. Students usually come in 2 nights
a week and receive 1 to 2 hours of tutoring each night. |
